Artist Note
Here is my definition of ‘Truth’.
The pure sunlight represents the absolute truth. The subject’s hat represents all the personal and societal filters that the truth passes through before it reaches her – whether that be
– intentional misinformation;
– unintentional warping of facts through gossip and Chinese whispers, or;
– her own belief systems that prevent her from accepting the truth even when she is being told it.
The only way she can KNOW the absolute truth, is to remove the hat, and interact directly with the source. She must be SHOWN, not told.
I wanted the subject to be bold and brave, looking directly at the viewer. This is because it can take courage to accept the truth… Afterall, some of the hardest truths to face are those we find in self reflection.
