This is the view standing at Doubtful Bay, Western Australia and looking towards the Barren Ranges. On the left is Mt Bland and the right is West Mt Barren.
Growing up, my family took school holiday trips to a shack/caravan near this beach… I have so many wonderful childhood memories of this place. My dad was a salmon fisherman and I remember watching the dinghy circling out to drop the net around schools of salmon and herring.
There were occasionally sharks that would patrol the bay, we had a baby seal come up the beach one day, and at certain times of the year we’d see whales breaching as they’d migrate along the coast.
The sand was squeaky fine sand and if we were lucky we’d see phosphorescence at night.
My sister-in-law was kind enough to let me use her photo as a reference for the painting.
