Artist Note
This painting was originally created for an art prize themed “Time”.
In this piece I hope to have captured someone who is ready for a new chapter in life.
You will see there is a book in the background, it is dull and tattered in appearance. This book represents the subject’s “past”. She has leafed through this too many times, enough is enough, she has closed this book, and she is ready to move on.
In front of the subject is the book of her “future”, its pages are blank as her future is not predetermined. She writes her own future page by page, as she is the creator of her own destiny. This book is also yellow in colour, which represents joy.
At this precise snapshot in time, the subject is fully “present”. She is in the act of creation, which requires presence of mind, whilst also being fully in the moment of wonder at the beauty of nature outside.
