Sometimes we spend so much time leafing through the past and re-living upsetting instances, that we forget how wonderful the present moment is and how wonderful the future may be. The past is who you were, it is not who you ARE.
This painting was originally created for an art prize with the theme “Time”.
In this piece I hope to have captured someone who is ready for a new chapter in life.
You will see there is a book in the background, it is dull and tattered in appearance… This book represents the subject’s “past”. She has leafed through this too many times, enough is enough, she has closed this book, and she is ready to move on.
In front of the subject is the book of her “future”, its pages are blank as she writes her own future page by page, she is the creator of her own destiny. This book is also yellow in colour, which represents joy. Positive thoughts create positive moments.
At this precise snapshot in time, the subject is fully “present”. Creation requires presence of mind, as does the state of wonder, whilst she admires the beauty of nature outside.
